{Food} Carb Counting…With Google?!

by Leighann on August 2, 2013

I have several tricks up my sleeve when it comes to carb counting. I love the CalorieKing iPhone appicon. I have lists at home. I frequent the websites of restaurants. And I’m quite good at SWAGging*.

But my friend Manny Hernandez shared a cool trick that I didn’t know of: Google.

You Google search any food name followed by “carbohydrates” and most of the time, the search result will be the nutrition information. I say most of the time because as I was playing around there were a few items that didn’t come up.

The source of the data is the USDA. You can even select the serving size.

I’ll wait a second while you open a second tab and do a quick Google search.

Wasn’t that cool?

*SWAG = scientific wild a$$ guess

Before I switched to an Android phone (aka “the darkside”) and started using Google for carb counting help, I used to ask Siri. She was reasonably helpful especially for fruit/vegetables.

That’s why I say we’re lucky to have d- kids now instead of even ten years ago, there is so much nutrition info just at our finger tips. People complain about nanny states but the nutrition info at all these restaurant counters make my life easier.

i had bad luck with google carbohydrates yesterday, trying to do all of the ingredients in an apricot-blueberry crisp. but that just serves me right!

“SWAG” is now officially my favorite acronym. 🙂

Yep, I’ll be using that one, too.

I discovered this myself trying to figure carbs for his own birthday party.
