Featured D-Blogs of the Week

Here are some of my favorite posts I have read recently:

One Happy Mama The Shirt (This post made me cry because I really understood how she felt. I walked into Q’s room, opened her closet and snapped a photo of her fish pajamas, which I shared with Kristina on Facebook. I still have those teeny tiny scrubs, neatly folded, and sitting on the top shelf of Q’s closet. I don’t know why I keep them, but I do.)

Mom of an Extra Sweet Insulin Challenged Girl 8 Months of Pumping (I know many of us say how much better having an insulin pump is over doing injections. Read this account of the hard work that actually goes into transitioning from MDI to a pump.)

A Sweet Grace Basal Dance- From Complex to Simple (This was a timely post to read. I need to do a little overnight basal testing. We had several days of high BG’s that just wouldn’t budge. I was about to change all of our rates and she returned to normal. Must have been growth hormones!)

Your Diabetes May Vary Of Fantasy Diabetes Devices, Sheldon & Dewy (I want a diabetes assistant like Dewy! Bennet makes so many good suggestions of the areas where us parents, trying our best to act as artificial pancreases, need help.)

Diabetes Mine Can You Trust Nutrition Labels? (See, no matter how hard we try to count carbs, the odds are already stacked against us!)

Most of all though, I love Kerri because I get perspective and a glimpse into Q’s future.)

Nicole of The We CARA Lot Blog A Vlog: Our First A1C Since Pumping (I really appreciate that she let us see this very real reaction to her child’s latest A1c.
Here are some of my favorite posts I have read recently:

D-Blogs

Diabetes Art Day 2011 Gallery (Wow, just wow!)

Denise of My Sweet Bean and Her Pod Really!?! (I was just telling my husband that one particular endo office doesn’t get that my 7yo T1 is NOT a 50yo T2 and shouldn’t be treated as such.)

Joslin Diabetes Blog Is There A Better Way To Give an Insulin Injection? (It’s been almost two years since MDI was our method of insulin delivery. But it’s still interesting to read. I hated a substitute school nurse we had for a couple of weeks because she did not use the insulin pen the way I wanted her to. Needless to say I was at school every day when she was there!)

medGadget New Sweat Sensors for Detecting Low Blood Glucose Levels and Other Conditions (Research into non-invasive ways to check blood sugar.)

Also from medGadget New iPad App Aims to Replace Paper-Based Check-In at Doctor’s Office (I hate filling out the SAME questions visit after visit, especially when nothing has changed. What would be even better is if they let you hold onto the iPad to entertain you or your child as you inevitably wait half an hour past your appointment time!)

(E-mail and feed subscribers click over for embedded video.)

Food

Real Food Moms Crock Pot Oatmeal (I want to try this recipe this winter. Though instead of apple juice for flavor, I think I would use some fresh diced apples, raisins, or some other fruit.)

D-Blogs

Sarah of We Gotta Have Faith The First Save (Q overheard me talking about DAD’s, or diabetic alert dogs, and now she wants one! This story is amazing.)

The nurse had Q blow bubbles and as she exhaled, the nurse quickly gave the injection. My husband said it was pure genius and Q wasn’t affected. So I can see how this product could distract a child.)

Alexis of I Run on Insulin Yeah. We Know. (We’d all be rich if we each had a nickel for every time we heard this!)

Jules of Muffinmoon Hide and Freak (I get this same feeling when the kids play Commando at our annual Halloween party. I make Q partner with an older child or grown up since they play hide and seek in the woods in the dark.)

Food

Amy Clark of Mom Advice 16 Ideas for Quick Weeknight Dinners (I have a difficult time getting dinner on the table during the school year!)
