Since Q’s diagnosis, I’ve always wanted to take her to the annual Children With Diabetes Friends For Life conference held each July in Orlando. I’m so happy to announce that this year we are going. I wish I was taking the entire family because there are sessions for dads and grandparents. And even siblings get in on the action during the children’s programming.
But this year as “first timers” it will be just the girls.
Looking at the schedule, it’s very hard to choose which sessions I am going to attend. There is going to be such incredible content from leading endocrinologists and CDE’s, plus many parents and T1’s. Some total rock stars will be making appearances such as Team Type 1 founder Phil Southerland, Indy race care driver Charlie Kimball, athletes such as Missy Foy, Sebastian Sasseville, Kendall Simmons, Jay Hewitt and Mike Fisher, and actual rock star Crystal Bowersox. How inspiring!
I am looking forward to seeing some of my friends that I have developed relationships with these past four years, but I am really stoked to meet new friends, too. It’s just so wonderful to be in a room with people who “get it.”
And Q doesn’t know that I have a very special surprise up my sleeve. Shhh, don’t tell!
But what I am excited to share is that my book Kids First, Diabetes Second is being launched at Friends For Life!
Thanks to Spry Publishing and Insulet, I will be in the OmniPod booth in the exhibition hall signing free excerpts of my book. If you are attending, I hope you stop by to say hello. You and your kids can even get crafty and decorate some pods. You know how much Q and I love decorating pods.
Have you been to the Friends For Life annual conference or one of the regional conferences? Are you going this year? I would love to hear about your experience.
Disclosure: Insulet is sponsoring my appearance in their booth and as such is helping with travel and conference expenses. We have been customers for two-and-a-half years. They have not asked me to write about their product on D-Mom Blog and opinions are always my own. If I write about Friends For Life here on D-Mom Blog, on Facebook, or Twitter, it’s with this disclosure in mind.
