{Diabetes Awareness Month} Thoughts 1-4

by Leighann on November 4, 2012

I decided that every single day during the month of November, which is Diabetes Awareness Month, that I would share a fact, tip, or thought across my social media channels: Twitter and Facebook.

These snippets will be short so they are easy to share.

If you see one of them on Twitter or Facebook, please retweet or share to help raise awareness to your friends and family who may not know much about diabetes.

1. Type 1 diabetes has no known cause and no cure. It is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks beta cells in the pancreas.

2. Type 1 diabetes was formerly called “juvenile diabetes,” a misnomer because children don’t outgrow it when they become adults.

3. In one year, a person with type 1 diabetes will give him/herself a minimum of 1,460 injections.

4. Minimally, my daughter checks her blood sugar 7 times a day. That’s more than 2,555 painful finger sticks a year.
