He’s the Sibling of a D-Kid

by Leighann on November 28, 2010

He will never know a life without diabetes.

He was not even one when his sister was diagnosed.

At the hospital all she could talk about was her brother’s monkey-themed first birthday party to be held in a few weeks.

He doesn’t understand it all yet, but he will.

He asks to have his finger checked and I pretend to do it.

He asks for juice when Q gets one for a low.

He yells “Smarties!” with excitement on All Hallow’s Eve because that’s one of the few candies he knows by name.

He’s heard countless times “Just a minute” as I finish up with Q.

I asked Q to tell me three things about her brother:

He’s adorable.

He likes Thomas.

He’s really crazy when you tell him about ice cream.

It’s true. He LOVES ice cream!

And he will be a better, kinder friend and partner for growing up with a sister with diabetes 🙂

I agree with Sara. This D business is pretty darned character building, I have to say. He’s a cutie-pie! Thanks for posting Leighann.

I love the pictures! Seeing pics of these families I’m getting to know is something I treasure.

Your family is beautiful. And he is going to do great things…I can tell already 🙂
