Islands and Insulin

Islands and Insulin Book

Islands and Insulin is the story of a girl, given a boat, one hundred nautical miles of ocean, and way too much caffeine to reflect on how an incorrigible disease has altered her voyage into adulthood, all wrapped inside a diabetes survival manual. It is a cross between the humor of Steve Markley’s Publish This Book, the travel journal of Jimmy Buffett’s A Pirate Looks at Fifty, and the sailing of Pete Goss’s Close to the Wind minus the sixty knot winds, fifty foot waves, below freezing temperatures, and the slick escape from death…hopefully.”

This has been on my book wish-list for a while. Winning a free copy would be awesome. Otherwise, thanks for the reminder to ask Santa for it!

My daughter is 9 and is a Type 1. “We” were diagnosed 2 years ago which is such a short time ago but is about 20 years in “diabetic years” I think 🙂 I am always reading anything I can about healthy adults with Type 1, hoping to find important keys to not only keeping her healthy but for getting her on a path so she will take care of herself when she is no longer under my wing. This sounds like a great book – So…….pick me please! 🙂

I’ve wanted to read this book for a long time now. Wish they carried it at the library but maybe now I’ll get to own it!
