When given the opportunity to do a little shopping for Q at OshKosh B’gosh, I had to jump at the chance.

Here’s my problem. Q is 9. She wears a size 10, give or take. The clothing that is generally sold in the 7-14 girls department at many stores is, how can I put this…inappropriate. I mean, really, what’s the rush to grow up? Why can’t girls still look like girls for a while?

I love that OshKosh B’Gosh goes up to size 12, which covers most girls still in grade school.

While I had intended to buy a few tunics with matching leggings that were doorbuster sale items the day we shopped, Q was automatically drawn to a couple of displays, one with nautical inspired pieces in navy and a rich orange and another rack with matching t-shirts and skirts.

If there are two trends that I know Q will wear, it’s anything with a Parisian theme or unicorns. She was in luck!

What I like about the two skirts she picked out is that they both have attached shorts. Normally I have her wear “playground shorts” under skirts and dresses so that she has a bit more freedom of movement. A girl’s gotta traverse the monkey bars at recess, after all!

The store was having some pretty good sales and I was able to use the 20% off a $30 purchase coupon (it wasn’t good on doorbusters or clearance items, but it was good for things already on sale). Q picked out a few accessories including some headbands, a necklace, and socks. I had a $100 gift card to spend and my total was just a little over. And she absolutely refused to give up the striped hoodie. Here is our haul…I think we have a good start on her spring wardrobe.

Using coupons and taking advantage of sales and a couple of items from the clearance rack, we purchased:

  • 3 girls tees
  • 2 skirts
  • 2 dresses
  • 1 hoodie
  • 3-pack of headbands
  • 3-pack of socks
  • 1 necklace
  • 1 reversible tote bag

OshKosh B’Gosh has a coupon for 20% off your $30 purchase, which you can print out to use in store or online through 3/12/14.

I had forgotten about OshKosh! My MIL and I went shopping for my newly diagnosed daughter and we were both lamenting the state of the girls department. Good grief, why do manufacturers think we want to dress our girls like…well, you know, when they are so young? Makes me crazy. I printed off our coupon and we are going on a shopping trip to the nearby town that has an OshKosh store. I’m glad to have found your blog and your book as I navigate my way through this new “normal”.
