{Our Story} Half Life

by Leighann on February 13, 2012

Today marks a milestone in my daughter’s life with diabetes.

Though we might have cupcakes on her d-anniversary to celebrate another year lived well despite diabetes, this milestone is not a happy occasion.

Today Q has lived half her life with diabetes.

Starting tomorrow she will have lived the majority of her life with diabetes.

She lived 3 years, 9 months, and 12 days as a normal, healthy, carefree, child without burdens.

As the years tick by she will no doubt forget what it was like before she was diagnosed.

This gave me chills šŸ™ So sad…but at the same time, so happy she is thriving and healthy and doing well with the life that was handed to her (and so many other kids, including my little). Happy D Day Q.

I barely remember my “half life” It was almost 30 years ago, at age 10. Its sad, but try to stay positivefor your child’s sake. Kids pick up on stuff like this, even if they don’t know the reason, they will eventually figure it out. I’m sure you are doing the best you can, which is an amazing thing, as far as I’m concerned. Give yourself a pat on the back and take each day as it comes:)

This post made me well up with tears. My Craigy is coming up on his first year mark with Type 1 Diabetes so we’re just at the beginning. However, joy from your pain, it’s comforting to know that even parents who have dealt with this way longer than I have still have bad days.
