{Our Story} I’m Walking For…

by Leighann on October 5, 2011

We began walking at our local ADA Step Out walk six years ago in support of another family member. Little did we know that two years later we would be walking for our own child.

I can get through the majority of the walk without being emotional, but there is one moment that makes me choke back tears every single time.

I sign three name tags with Q’s name for my husband, son, and I to wear.

The last one I fill out for Q. And it breaks my heart.

I’m making my first appearance on the StepOut circuit. I’m walking for me, too.

I’m gonna stuff a kleenex in my pocket. I pray it’s not as emotional as the Relay for Life I walked for my dad… but, just in case!

Standing in the gap for you guys today…

I am sure she wore it proudly though. We don’t have walks here…wish we did.

When I get home I’m going to have to find where I posted the words I gave before my first Tour De Cure…

Aw. I usually write “everyone with diabetes” (or everyone with Type 1 diabetes at JDRF events) on mine, because I really don’t see it as work for myself but for everyone, like Q, that I know in the online world and in my real life world. Q will decide what she wants to write when she gets older, and I’m sure you’ll be proud of her. Lots of hugs!
