Kim, author of Texting My Pancreas, has started a new video project called “You Can Do This” aimed at letting others with diabetes know that they are not alone and that they have support.
Kim says, “You Can Do This is a growing community of videos, created by people with diabetes, with the aim [to] provide validation, hope and encouragement through honest talk for those who struggle with the disease.”
I talked with my daughter about this project and she agreed that she would like to show other children, who might be newly diagnosed with diabetes, that there is nothing that they can’t do because of diabetes.
She has traveled halfway across the country. She’s gone camping, to the amusement park, and to the waterpark. She’s taken dance, ice skating, soccer, tennis, and gymnastics. She goes to public school. She’s raised thousands of dollars for diabetes programs and talked in front of hundreds of people. She has learned to check her own blood sugar and count carbs.
Even though she has diabetes, she can do everything a child without diabetes can do. And so can your d-kid!

Love this video…I’m going to show my 5 year old girl with D in the morning! Great job to Q & her brother! ๐
You know, I used to really not like to look at CWD blogs. They just broke my heart; too many memories.
They still break my heart but they also remind me how strong children and their parents are in dealing with this. Things are different now because we can share little things like this with the whole world.
Thanks for reminding us what is important!
