There’s a little game we (don’t) like to play when we go to parties: Guess the Carbs.
You know, you let your child fill up a plate with a little of this and a little of that.
I have bolusing for cake and ice cream* almost down to a science. But potlucks always throw me for a loop.
At one of five (yes FIVE) Halloween parties we attended this year, here is what Q ate:
I jokingly asked my friends on Twitter to take a guess at the number of carbs. The answers were informative and entertaining:
I was thinking maybe 50 grams of carbs, but maybe more. My husband said 60. I decided to split the difference and bolused for 55.
Can I just say I LOVE, love, love having an insulin pump at parties? LOVE. What a difference a year makes.
Read all of my writing on Halloween.
*I count a 3 inch piece of frosted cake or a cupcake as 30 grams carbs and a half cup of ice cream as 15. Give or take.
I was thinking 35 may i was way off.
I am getting better at carb guesstimating but still it is not my forte! What a fun idea to post a photo and have people guess carbs…
I like to call it an educated guess! We have 3 parties the next three nights so let the guessing begin!!
Now see, I would have only gone with 35-40 with the small size of the cookies. Then again, I am TERRIFIED of over dosing right now. Newbie for sure 😉
Yeah, it looked like 60 to me. However 60 seems to be my go to guess number for some reason. There’s no Halloween here and I can’t say I miss it. I don’t think the kids miss it either to be honest. Holy Cow, 5 parties?!?!?!
